HISTORY
Born to a well known noble family in the Talon province of Lodorrim, Annette was one of four siblings and the only daughter of Vincent and Desdemona Hallowedhelm. While everyone assumed, as their only daughter, she would be married off for political gain, Annette was instead sent off to the Institute of the Arcane after displaying an affinity and interest in learning magic. There, she spent the majority of her childhood and teenage years learning the art of Sagery (holy and light magic), returning in her early twenties just in time for Loddorim to find themselves with a new Sovreign Duke, Saire Lioncrest.
While many noble families loyal to the former king were slain, those that vowed allegiance to his slayer found themselves with many newfound lands and duties. Vincent Hallowedhelm, more fond of the new Duke and his ideals, had his family spared and given rank in the Black Guard; an order of knights serving Saire's right hand Duke Gisborne The Fallen. When Annette returned, her father, knowing her devotion to the Father of Light and her affinity for holy magics and political intrigue, suggested she take her place as the Bishop of Farbridge, a town of Talon that recently lost its old Bishop when he had disapproved of the new leadership. Saire agreed.
After celebrating her new title in Talonvale with her family and meeting the priests of Farbridge - Bertrand, Felix, and a newcomer named Jean-Baptiste - Annette, said priests, and her youngest brother Olivier (acting as her bodyguard) ventured down to Farbridge to introduce her to the town and get settled.
Her welcome was, to say the least, unpleasant, with the majority of the townsfolk recovering from the war and displeased with the change in leadership, Annette was immediately struggling to earn their respect only moments after arrival. She was at war with the local mercenary band formed of former Black Guard, their leader challenging her to a duel that her brother Olivier would win as her Champion. She slaughtered his followers soon after in a fire, and much of the town's Militia was lost in the melee that followed. Needless to say, she was not welcomed as warmly as she had hoped, and the townsfolk would come to call her The Angel of Death.
Annette did not immediately embrace that title, and tried her hardest to fight against it, but given her obvious preference for Saire's new laws over the teachings of the church she was meant to be leading, she was contending with many and butting heads with everyone save for the loyalists of the Sovreign Duke.
Her reputation as a woman of war did not change at all when she sent for more military troops from the north, having heard word that one of the holdouts from the war, a settlement called Breakwater Keep, was intending to try and make a move on Farbridge. Soon enough her other two brothers, Carlisle and Antony, arrived with an army of Black Guard. Her and Carlisle immediately started butting heads over who commanded who.
Before she could even begin to try and concoct a plan to counter Breakwater's oncoming attack, Annette was faced with another problem. While dealing with one of the more outspoken members of the peasantry, she and Carlisle were attacked by a strange, deformed beast that burst from the wilds outside of town. Barely escaping with their lives, they retreated to the town and warned everyone of the beast, blaming the death of the mentioned peasant on it, when it had in fact been Carlisle that executed him on Annette's orders.
The beast had, apparently, been the servant of a heretical witch living outside of the town; a gangly woman with too long limbs and skin of bark. And it was when she made her appearance that Annette learned that Jean-Baptiste, the younger priest of the church, was actually a man named Mathis who had been framed for the murder of his family back in Talonvale and had posed as a priest to flee from his supposed crime. When the witch came, she offered him a deal - the return of his family, and all she wanted in return was for the town to be populated once more. What she did not tell Mathis was that in killing the visions he saw of his family, he had essentially destroyed their souls and left them to darkness, and had condemned all of those that had died to return to Farbridge as husks - creatures that looked and acted like those that had died, but were ultimately soulless and unforgiving spirits and servants of the witch.
Annette had witnessed the entire transaction under threat of death from the beast, leaving her unable to do anything to stop it. And when she first tried, the witch appeared and stabbed Carlisle, telling Annette that if she told anyone what was happening, or acted out of the ordinary, she would kill him and every one of her family members. Upon vowing as much with a drop of her blood, Carlisle returned, unharmed and not even recalling what had happened, and Annette was forced to pretend as if everything were alright.
While Mathis enjoyed the return of his 'family', Annette played dumb while actively trying to find a way to thwart the witch and break the curse upon her town. Eventually, with the town cursed and time ticking down to both the witches inevitable turn and Breakwaters incoming siege, Annette told her brothers of the threat and they ventured out to cull Farbridge of its undead abominations.
The fight that ensued was not an easy one, and one of the Black Guard Annette had grown fond of, Piers, was slain during the battle. Carlisle, devastated by the loss of his brother in arms, tore through the remaining husks. Meanwhile, Mathis, after killing the other two priests and losing one of his children again upon failing a task for the witch, was desperate and scared, and ultimately fled the city. He was met on the road by a paladin named Father Chastain, who saw through him and killed Mathis on the spot, riding into Farbridge after. Unfortunately, the witch had other plans and revived Mathis as her charge, giving him the order to kill Chastain and all of the Hallowedhelms.
The siege was coming fast, and with little other choice Antony was told to stay behind and command the Black Guard to defend the city while Annette and the others hunted for the witch. Finding her in her lair in the woods, they fought a heated battle that inevitably ended with the witch turning into a pile of wood. Not dead, but dealt with for now. They headed back to Farbridge to find it half taken thanks to Mathis underhanded tactics. And through another series of harrowing events, Annette would slay Mathis - a creature of heresy - with all the holy power she had, while her siblings and the rest of the army pushed Breakwater keep back.

PERSONALITY
Annette is young, but incredibly intelligent with a vested interest in political intrigue. She has the ability to read people based on bodily cues and changes in tone and subtle quirks even they do not notice, making her an incredible ally in intense meetings between diplomats. She is well spoken, calm, and collected and can easily adapt as situations change - ie: her accepting her new title as The Angel of Death and using it to her advantage, even if fear was not what she initially wished to rule with.
She is a devout follower of the Father of Light and believes in all of its teachings. However, she is also fiercely loyal to the Sovereign Duke Saire and, if given the choice, would always follow his orders even over the teachings of the church, making her perhaps not the ideal bishop, but perfect for the man who wished to take his homeland back from the bastard king that had ruled it prior.
The only people one could say she is even more loyal to than Saire, would be her family. Annette would sooner die than allow anything to happen to her loved ones, and even went so far as to make a deal with a heretical witch to keep them safe. Even when she broke that promise, she had only done so once she was certain she was in a position to protect her brothers, and she would absolutely lose her shit if any of them came to harm.
